Ayurveda explains human health through the concept of Prakṛti, or body constitution. Every
individual is born with a unique balance of the three doṣas—Vāta, Pitta, and Kapha. This balance
is decided at the time of conception and remains constant throughout life. Understanding one’s
Prakṛti helps in choosing the right diet, lifestyle, and daily habits to maintain health and prevent
disease.
Charaka Saṃhitā states:
शुक्रशोणितसंयोगे यद्भवेत् प्रकृतिः स्मृता ।
Prakṛti is determined at the time of conception.
Vāta Doṣa
Vāta doṣa is formed from the elements Ākāśa (ether) and Vāyu (air). It is the principle of
movement and governs all activities in the body.
Key Functions:
Breathing
& circulation
Nervous system
& communication
Movement of muscles
& joints
When Vāta is balanced, a person is energetic, creative, and alert. When imbalanced, it may cause
anxiety, dryness, joint pain, insomnia, and digestive irregularities.

Vāta is the main force responsible for movement in the body.

Pitta is the digestive fire of the body.

Kapha Doṣa

stability to the body.
