What We Treat

Autoimmune Disorders

Autoimmune disorders are conditions in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own healthy cells and tissues, perceiving them as harmful invaders.

The Ayurvedic Perspective

Autoimmune disorders represent a condition where the immune system turns against the body’s own tissues. This immune confusion leads to chronic inflammation and gradual tissue damage. In Ayurveda, such disorders are understood as the result of impaired digestion (Agni) and accumulation of metabolic toxins (Ama). These imbalances disturb the Doshas and weaken the body’s natural defense system (Ojas).

Over time, this leads to recurring symptoms and involvement of multiple organs or systems. Ayurveda views autoimmune disorders as systemic imbalances rather than isolated diseases. Understanding the root imbalance is considered essential for long-term care.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)

group 44

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks the joints.

  • It commonly affects the small joints of the hands and feet in a symmetrical pattern.
  • Persistent pain, swelling, warmth, and stiffness are typical symptoms.
  • Morning stiffness lasting more than an hour is a key characteristic.
  • As the disease progresses, joint deformities and reduced mobility may occur.
  • Fatigue and generalized weakness are often associated symptoms.

Psoriasis

group 44

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune skin disorder caused by accelerated skin cell turnover.

  • It presents as red, thickened patches covered with silvery scales.
  • Commonly affected areas include the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back.
  • Itching, dryness, and cracking of skin are frequent complaints.
  • Symptoms may worsen during stress or infections.
  • The condition follows a relapsing and remitting course.

Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis

group 44
  • Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid gland.
  • The immune system gradually damages thyroid tissue, leading to reduced hormone production.
  • Symptoms include fatigue, weight gain, cold intolerance, and dry skin.
  • Hair fall and constipation are commonly reported.
  • The condition often develops slowly over several years.
  • Hormonal imbalance may affect metabolism and overall energy levels.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

group 44

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a multisystem autoimmune disorder.

  • It can affect joints, skin, kidneys, heart, and nervous system.
  • Common symptoms include joint pain, skin rashes, and severe fatigue.
  • The disease is characterized by flare-ups and periods of remission.
  • Sunlight and stress may trigger symptom exacerbation.
  • Severity and organ involvement vary between individuals.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

group 44

Inflammatory Bowel Disease includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

  • It causes chronic inflammation of the digestive tract.
  • Symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and blood in stools.
  • Weight loss and fatigue are common due to poor nutrient absorption.
  • The condition often follows a relapsing pattern.
  • Long-term inflammation may lead to digestive complications.

Ankylosing Spondylitis

group 44

Ankylosing Spondylitis is an autoimmune inflammatory disorder primarily affecting the spine.

  • It causes chronic lower back pain and stiffness, especially in the morning.
  • Symptoms improve with movement and worsen with rest.
  • Over time, spinal flexibility may reduce.
  • The condition commonly begins in early adulthood.
  • Other joints may also be involved.

Vitiligo

group 44
  • Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin disorder involving loss of skin pigmentation.
  • It occurs due to destruction of melanocytes by the immune system.
  • White patches appear on the skin, hair, or mucous membranes.
  • The condition is not painful or contagious.
  • Progression varies from person to person.
  • Psychological impact may occur due to visible skin changes.
